OraBliss CBD: A Tour of Our Incredible Organic Ingredients

Have you ever read the ingredients in your oral hygiene products? Perhaps you were curious when visiting your local pharmacy or when filling the bath, or maybe even when sitting on the porcelain throne. Doing so is like reading an alien language. That is, if you can get past the extra-small print!

Faced with Xanthan gum and Cocamidopropyl, nitrates and saccharins, it can be somewhat alarming. Is this what I've been putting in my mouth!

Here at OraBliss, we don't have any of that gunk. Nor do we squirrel away our ingredients, ashamed of the chemicals, additives and other harmful compounds we're putting in our products. The ingredients in our organic toothpaste and organic mouthwash have been carefully sourced, their – au naturale – promoting the best oral hygiene possible.

But don't just take our word for it.

Here are all of our ingredients and why they're fantastic for your oral health.

Cannabidiol (CBD)

When we call our toothpaste and mouthwash organic, we aren't kidding. Produced from THC Free, Non-GMO and Gluten-Free crops, our CBD is pure eco-bliss. Picked by hand, the oil then undergoes a purification process – using a non-emulsion process to produce a high-quality CBD Nano Isolate that improves bodily absorption. Finally, we receive a Quality of Assurance check via lab-tested results to ensure the quality of our product – making sure no pesticides or heavy metals are lurking in the mix.

We've already explored the benefits of CBD for our oral health in a previous post. But in case you missed it: CBD is antiseptic, analgesic, and antibacterial. It reduces the incidence of gum disease, like periodontitis, tooth infection, and the prevention or slowing of tooth decay.

Extra-Fine Bentonite Clay

Clay is unlikely to be the first thing that crosses your mind when you think teeth. But this is no ordinary clay. Trust us.

Bentonite clay is harvested from volcanic ash and then processed into our extra-fine powder. It is a member of the Montmorillonite minerals – a very soft group – meaning it is strong enough to scrub the tough plaque that adheres to our teeth. However, it won't damage the underlying enamel that's vital to our oral health.

It also contains trace minerals such as phosphorus and calcium. These are key to the remineralisation of teeth. So, it strengthens your bite while also neutralizing the acids from sugars – thereby reducing bacterial growth—no more decay with bentonite clay.

Xylitol

Imagine the taste of sugar without the harmful tooth decay. Sounds too good to be true, right?

Well, you better believe it. Xylitol is a form of sugar substitute. It gives your tastebuds the sizzling sensation of sugar and is found naturally in many fruits and vegetables. It helps keep our organic toothpaste and organic mouthwash palatable – after all, you're going to be swilling it around your mouth.

But there's a secret benefit. Xylitol can help prevent tooth decay by slowing the growth of harmful bacteria. These bacteria require sugar to thrive. By replacing sugar, xylitol deprives them of fuel. But they still uptake xylitol. Doing so clogs up their energy-producing pathways causing them to stop growing and die. So, it cleans your mouth and tastes good!

Non-GMO Vegetable Glycerin

When you've got organic toothpaste this good, the last thing you want is for it to be drying out in the tube.

That's why we use Non-GMO vegetable glycerin. Glycerin is what's known as a humectant. That's a fancy word for holds onto water. Therefore, it keeps the moisture in the tube but also prevents your mouth drying when you use our toothpaste.

What's more, vegetable glycerin is bacteriostatic: preventing the growth of bacteria. It's two for one. It keeps your toothpaste fresh, and it protects against tooth decay.

Of course, following our company values, our vegetable glycerin is Non-GMO and UPS pharmaceutical grade. It is made from 100% palm-oil that has been RSPO Certified (Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil). No rainforests were harmed in the making of our products!

Himalayan Pink Salt

Himalayan pink salt has become a dining table must-have in recent years. Mined by hand near the Karakoram River, high in the foothills of the Himalayas, the lustrous salt is as beautiful as it is beneficial. The pink hue is due to the vast array of trace minerals locked into its crystalline structure, including potassium, magnesium, calcium and more.

The most obvious benefits are that it has none of the harmful additions found in regular salt. Pure as the Himalayan air, pink salt is unprocessed and unblemished. So, it keeps the bucket full of helpful minerals.

Salt is also fantastic for your teeth. Triggering the production of saliva, it allows the body's restorative mechanism to take precedence. Saliva helps to strengthen enamel and also neutralizes acids. For its part, salt helps reduce inflammation and has even been credited with fighting bad breath.

Organic Extra Virgin Coconut Oil

Sitting beneath a palm tree, coconut in hand is a relaxing way to spend your holiday. But little do you realize how remarkable the coconut in your palm is. Beneath the hard and dry exterior is an elixir of life.

Nutritionists have long been lauding the systemic health benefits from coconut oil. But the benefits for your oral hygiene are less appreciated. Rich in fatty acids, one in particular – lauric acid – has caught the attention of dentists. Lauric acid is known to kill pathogens such as streptococcus mutans – the critical cause of tooth decay.

That's only the beginning!

Oil pulling – swilling oil around your mouth – was associated with significant decreases in plaque build-up. Swilling toothpaste around is what you do when you brush – the same is true for mouthwash. No wonder we added it to the ingredients list.

Essential Oils: Spearmint, Peppermint, Eucalyptus, Thymol, Clove, Lavender and Tea Tree

Anyone who's dabbled in essential oils is aware of their incredible benefits. For centuries, we've used these fragrant extracts from flowers and fruits, roots and stems, to produce botanical and medicinal marvels. For essential oils are more than just a pretty scent.

Essential Oil Dental Health Benefits

Here's a short overview of each:

Peppermint oil (Mentha Piperita) is both antibacterial and antifungal. It helps cleanse the mouth preventing periodontitis, gingivitis and halitosis.

Spearmint oil (Mentha Crispa), similar to peppermint oil, spearmint is an antiseptic. It soothes gums and eliminates germs, allowing the mouth to heal.

Eucalyptus oil (Eucalyptae) will freshen your breath with its antibacterial properties. All our products contain this active ingredient, using it to prevent plaque build-up.

Thymol oil (Thymus Vulgaris), as the Latin name suggests, is extracted from the thyme plant. Like other essential oils, it is a natural disinfectant, killing bacteria and preventing fungal growth – so no risk of candidiasis or oral thrush. Plus, it can soothe a sore throat and help lift your spirits.

Clove oil (Syzygium Aromaticum) has been used for tooth pain in Chinese medicine for hundreds of years. It disinfects root canals and inhibits bacterial growth. For those suffering from dry socket, it is also a welcome relief, helping to soothe the pain.

Lavender oil (Lavandula) will clean your teeth and relieve your anxiety. Amazingly a waft of lavender is all that is needed to calm stress and soothe nerves. That's why you often smell it on a trip to the dentist.

Tea Tree oil (Melaleuca) can cure a plethora of oral issues. By fighting bacteria it is used for plaque and gum disease prevention. It's also helpful if you have any toothache. Truly miraculous stuff!

Baking Soda

For those who've forgotten their high school chemistry, baking soda neutralizes acids. Consider bacteria thrive in the acidic environment resulting from sugars and other foods. That's why oral care products have included baking soda for hundreds of years. Interestingly, the active ingredient in baking soda – bicarbonate – is also found in your saliva.

By neutralizing the acid, baking soda prevents tooth decay and plaque formation. So, your teeth stay healthier for longer.

Aloe Vera

This spiky succulent is packed with health-boosting properties. Hailing from the Arabian Peninsula, it has become a mainstay of healthcare products. But it's also got vital benefits for your oral care.

Being anti-inflammatory and antibacterial it can soothe gum disease as well as a whole host of other conditions. These include lichen planus, submucous fibrosis, recurrent aphthous stomatitis, alveolar osteitis, and periodontitis. If your mouth can get it, aloe vera can help.

The aloe vera in our products has been certified for purity and potency by the IASC (International Aloe Science Council). It is made of premium quality 99.5% purified aloe vera leaf juice – grown organically, of course.

Zinc

Last but certainly not least, we have zinc. Remarkably, zinc helps to prevent demineralisation of your teeth and helps boost remineralisation.

But it also puts a stop to halitosis. Bad breath is caused by microorganisms growing in your mouth, producing volatile sulphur compounds like hydrogen sulphide. These compounds come with a nasty smell. Luckily, zinc binds to VSC's preventing them from leaving the mouth.

So, stronger teeth and no more bad breath: what's not to like!
